New Beginnings

Its been two years after high school, all my friends have started their university degrees with a clear view of what they are expecting out of life. I on the other hand have been drifting from one job to the next for the past two years. Did i have a plan on where my life was headed? There answer to this question was no but i knew one thing, i needed to be doing something that was much more fulfilling than my then current job as a cocktail bartender in Cape Town. After pondering on my dilemma for one month, i decided what had to be done. i needed to leave my comfort zone and take on a challenge that i had never faced before in my life. I found a company on the internet by the name of Chilli Adventures that offered placings for teachers in Thailand. All that was needed was a Matric Certificate( High School Diploma) and you had to be from a native English speaking country. Luckily for me i met both these requirements. So after a month of organizing everything i found myself at the airport with my mother, father, my friend who I'd known since childhood and his mother. Everything happened so quickly, the gravity of what i was planning on doing only really hit me when i was at the airport, i had never traveled without my family let alone in South Africa and now i was two hours away from leaving the country by myself. All kinds of thoughts were racing through my head, a part of me wanted to tell my mother i don't want to do this anymore but i knew these were childish thoughts that everyone who goes through this experience will think of. next thing i know im standing by the gates, hugged my friends and family goodbye and i was on my way. When i was about to disappear through the gates, i looked 'back at my family one more time and the weirdest thing happened, i realized i wasn't going to see these people for a whole entire year but instead of being sad, i was happy, happy that i had the courage to leave everything i knew behind and step on forward to new beginnings. I suddenly realized that some people go through all their lives being afraid of change and will never know what their full capabilities are, at this point i made a promise to myself, i will never let fear of the unknown control the actions of my life. With that very important thought in mind, i stepped on to the plane with a courage and readiness i had never felt before to face the great unknown.....
